\par
\par 4. LICENSE TERMS FOR THE WORKS YOU CREATE USING BORLAND DELPHI PERSONAL VERSION 6
\par You may not use the Software for any commercial, business, governmental or institutional purpose of any kind ("Noncommercial Pur
poses"). Borland grants to you as an individual, a personal, nonexclusive license to install and use the Software for the sole purposes of designing, developing and running, in source and compiled form, the works which you create for your own personal Non
commercial Purposes, using the Software ("Works"), subject to the restrictions in this License Agreement. You may distribute your Works to others. {\f8 You may not receive any direct or indirect compensation for the distribution or use of your Works.}
\par
\par In the e
vent that you use the Software for any commercial, business, governmental or institutional purpose, in breach of this license grant, you hereby agree to purchase at the then current retail price, the number of licenses of the then current version of Delph
i Professional, equal to the number of copies of Delphi Personal in your possession. You agree to reimburse Borland for all attorney's fees, expenses and court costs incurred by Borland as a result of such breach.
\par
\par Nothing in this License Agreement permits
you to derive the source code of files that Borland has provided to you in compiled form only, or to reproduce, modify, use, or distribute the source code of such files. You are not, of course, restricted from distributing source code or compiled code th
at is entirely your own (so long as you receive no direct or indirect compensation for such distribution and such use of the Software is for personal, Noncommercial Purposes). Source code which you generate with a Borland source code generator, such as t
he Application Wizard, is considered by Borland to be your code.
\par
\par GENERAL TERMS THAT APPLY TO COMPILED WORKS AND REDISTRIBUTABLES
\par You may compile (including byte-code compile) your Works using the Software, including any libraries and source code included for such purpose with the Software. You may reproduce and distribute Works in compiled form, without additional license or fees,
subject to all of the conditions in this License Agreement.{\f8 You may not receive any direct or indirect compensation for the distribution or use of your Works.}
\par
\par The Software may include certain files ("Redistributables") intended for distribution by you to the users of your Works. Redistributables include, for example, those files identified in the accompanying printed or on-line documentation as redistributable
files, those files preselected for deployment by an install utility provided with the Software (if any), or those files pre-selected by a third party install utility which operates under control of an install script which Bo
rland has certified (if any) for use by licensed users of this Software for deploying applications. In any event, the Redistributables for the Software are only those files specifically designated as such by Borland. From time to time, Borland may desig
nate other files as Redistributables. You should refer to the documentation, including any "readme" or "deploy" files included with the Software, for additional information.
\par
\par Subject to all of the conditions in this License Agreement, you may reproduce a
nd distribute exact copies of the Redistributables, provided that such copies are made from the original copy of the Software or the copy transferred to the single hard disk. Copies of Redistributables may only be distributed with and for the sole purpos
e of executing the Works permitted under this License Agreement that you have created using the Software. Under no circumstances may any copies of Redistributables be distributed separately. Regardless of any modifications which you make and regardless
of
how you might compile, link, and/or package your Works, under no circumstances may the libraries (including runtime libraries), code, Redistributables, and/or other files of the Software (including any portions thereof) be used for developing Works by a
nyone other than you. Only you as the licensed user (or the Named User for your entity) have the right to use the libraries (including runtime libraries), code, Redistributables, or other files of the Software (or any portions thereof) for developing Wor
ks. In particular, you may not share copies of the Redistributables with other co-developers. You may not reproduce or distribute any Borland documentation without Borland's permission.
\par
\par The license granted in this License Agreement for you to create the Works and distribute your Works and the Redistributables (if any) is subject to all of the following conditions: (i) all copies of the Works you create must bear a valid copyright notice
, either your own or the Borland copyright n
otice that appears on the Software; (ii) you may not remove or alter any Borland copyright, trademark or other proprietary rights notice contained in any portion of Borland libraries, source code, Redistributables or other files that bear such a notice; (
iii) all rights and obligations of the parties here are personal to them and this License Agreement is not intended to benefit nor shall it be deemed to give rise to, any rights in any third party; consequently, Borland provides no warranty at all to any
pe
rson, other than the Limited Warranty provided to the original purchaser of the Software, and you will remain solely responsible to anyone receiving your Works for support, service, upgrades, or technical or other assistance, and such recipients will have
no right to contact Borland for such services or assistance; (iv) you will indemnify, defend and hold Borland, its related companies and its suppliers, harmless from and against any claims or liabilities arising out of the use, reproduction or distributi
on
of your Works; (v) your Works must be written using a licensed, registered copy of the Software; (vi) your Works must add primary and substantial functionality, and may not be merely a set or subset of any of the libraries (including runtime libraries),
code, Redistributables or other files of the Software; (vii) regardless of any modifications which you make and regardless of how you might compile, link, or package your Works, the libraries (including runtime libraries), code, Redistributables, and/or o
th
er files of the Software (including any portions thereof) may not be used in works created by your end users (i.e., users of your Works) and may not be further redistributed by your end users; and (viii) you may not use Borland's or any of its suppliers'
names, logos, or trademarks to market your Works, except to state that your Work was written using the Software.
\par
\par The Software might include source code, redistributable files, and/or other files provided by a third party vendor ("Third Party Software"). S
ince use of Third Party Software might be subject to license restrictions imposed by the third party vendor, you should refer to the on-line documentation (if any) provided with Third Party Software for any license restrictions imposed by the third party
vendor. In any event, any license restrictions imposed by a third party vendor are in addition to, not in lieu of, the terms and conditions of this License Agreement.
\par
\par All Borland Software provided under this License Agreement, including but not limited to
libraries, source code, Redistributables and other files remain Borland's exclusive property. Borland will retain all right, title and interest in and to the libraries, source code, Redistributables and other files, including the Intellectual Property c
ontained in such property (including but not limited to, ownership of all copyrights, patents, trademarks, service marks worldwide). Regardless of any modifications that you make, you may not distribute any files (particularly Borland source code and oth
er non-compiled files) except those that Borland has expressly designated as Redistributables.
\par
\par Contact Borland for the applicable royalties due and other licensing terms for all other uses and/or distribution of the Redistributables.
\par
\par 5. LIMITED WARRANTY
\par a. Software provided under this License Agreement, including but not limited to libraries, source code, Redistributables and other files are provided "as is," without warranty of any kind except as expressly provided in this paragraph. Borland warrants
that, except with respect to the Redistributables, the Software, as updated and when properly used, will perform substantially in accordance with the accompanying documentation, and the Software media will be free from defects in materials and workmanship
, for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of receipt. Any implied warranties on the Software are limited to ninety (90) days. Some states/jurisdictions do not allow limitations on duration of an implied warranty, so the above limitation may not a
pply to you.
\par
\par b. Borland's and its suppliers' entire liability and your exclusive remedy shall be, at Borland's option, either (a) return of the price paid, or (b) repair or replacement of the Software that does not meet Borland's Limited Warranty and which is returne
d to Borland with a copy of your receipt. DO NOT RETURN ANY PRODUCT UNTIL YOU HAVE CALLED THE BORLAND CUSTOMER SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND OBTAINED A RETURN AUTHORIZATION NUMBER. This Limited Warranty is void if failure of the Software has resulted
from accident, abuse, or misapplication. Any replacement Software will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period or thirty (30) days, whichever is longer. Outside the United States, neither these remedies nor any product support se
rvices offered by Borland are available without proof of purchase from an authorized non-U.S. source.
\par
\par c. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, BORLAND AND ITS SUPPLIERS DISCLAIM ALL OTHER WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED,
INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, WITH REGARD TO THE SOFTWARE, AND THE PROVISION OF OR FAILURE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT SERVICES. BORLAND DOES NOT WARRANT THAT TH
E BORLAND SOFTWARE WILL BE ERROR FREE OR WILL OPERATE WITHOUT INTERRUPTION. THE ENTIRE RISK ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR PERFORMANCE OF THE BORLAND SOFTWARE AND ACCOMPANYING WRITTEN MATERIALS REMAINS WITH YOU. THIS LIMITED WARRANTY GIVES YOU SPECIFIC LEGAL
RIGHTS. YOU MAY HAVE OTHERS, WHICH VARY FROM STATE/JURISDICTION TO STATE/JURISDICTION.
\par
\par 6. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
\par TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL BORLAND OR ITS LICENSORS OR SUPPLIERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DAMAGES FOR
LOSS OF BUSINESS PROFITS OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, GOODWILL, LOSS OF BUSINESS INFORMATION, OR ANY OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS) WHETHER BASED ON PRINC
IPLES OF CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), DUTY, INDEMNITY, CONTRIBUTION OR OTHERWISE, ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE OR THE PROVISION OF OR FAILURE TO PROVIDE SUPPORT SERVICES, EVEN IF BORLAND HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSS
IBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN ANY CASE, BORLAND'S ENTIRE LIABILITY UNDER ANY PROVISION OF THIS LICENSE AGREEMENT SHALL BE LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT ACTUALLY PAID BY YOU FOR THE SOFTWARE PRODUCT OR U.S. $25; PROVIDED, HOWEVER, IF YOU HAVE ENTERED
IN
TO A BORLAND SUPPORT SERVICES AGREEMENT, BORLAND'S ENTIRE LIABILITY REGARDING SUPPORT SERVICES SHALL BE GOVERNED BY THE TERMS OF THAT AGREEMENT. BECAUSE SOME STATES AND JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OR LIMITATION OF LIABILITY, THE ABOVE LIMITAT
ION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.
\par
\par 7. AUDIT RIGHTS

ucted during regular business hours at your facilities, with five (5) days written notice. You agree to provide Borland's designated audit or inspection team access to the relevant records and facilities and to otherwise cooperate with such audit or insp
ection team. Any such audit and/or inspection will be paid for by Borland, provided, however{\ul ,}
that in the event that any such examination discloses a shortfall in payment of more than five percent (5%) for any quarter, you agree to (i) pay or reimburse Bor
land for the reasonable expenses of the examination, as determined in good faith by the parties at the completion of the examination, and (ii) immediately remit payment to Borland for the full amount of any disclosed shortfalls (in addition to the reasona
ble expenses for such examination).

\par {\pntext\pard\plain\f1\fs20 \'b7\tab}INSTALLING FOR MULTIPLE USERS [WINNT/2000 ONLY]
In many cases, rebooting after installation is no longer necessary. The Borland Debugger kernel and other Borland components are automatically registered during installation. Ho
wever, the installer may update some Windows system components, which will require you to reboot at the end of the installation. In addition, if you are installing on Windows 95/98 or Windows Millennium, you may wish to reboot to have your PATH environmen
An installation maintenance mode is available by simply rerunning the installation. The maintenance dialog lets you add or remove features, repair the installation, or remove the product. Choosing "Modify" lets you install features that you d
id not previously install, or remove features that you no longer use. Choosing "Repair" causes the installer to search for and reinstall any files that are missing or damaged. "Remove" uninstalls the product.
On Windows 2000 and higher (including Windows XP), the Microsoft Installer service provides an auto-repair feature that constantly tries to detect and repair damaged applications. One of the ways that it does this is by monitoring the installed directory
structure of an application. If you delete o
r rename any of the directories installed by Delphi, the Microsoft Installer will detect this and will, without warning, attempt to restore the missing directories. To prevent the auto-repair function from being unintentionally invoked, you should not man
ually delete or rename any of the installed Delphi directories. To add or remove features, always use the installer application.
\par INSTALLING FOR MULTIPLE USERS [WINNT/2000 ONLY]
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par [Note: This section applied only to installations on Windows NT, 2000, and later Windows operating systems, including XP. It does not apply to installations on Windows 95, 98, or Millennium systems.]
\par
\par The procedure for installing and uninstalling Delphi for multiple users on Windows NT and Windows 2000 systems has changed.
\par
\par The new installation procedure no longer requires each user to install Delphi separately. The product is installed only once, by any user with Administrator privileges, and is immediately available to all users of the same machine. It is a
lso available to any new users you may add later.
\par
\par In previous releases, an Administrator installed the product, and all other users of the same machine who needed to use Delphi had to install the product separately using the "Registry Only" option.
\par
\par The new uninstallation procedure has also changed. The Administrator
who initially installed the product must first uninstall it (through the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs applet); after that, all other users of the product must log in and run the provided
D6RegClean.exe utility in order to remove user-specific data from the Windows registry. (Note: D6RegClean.exe is installed to your \\Bin directory and is also available on your CD in the \\Info\\Extras folder.)
\par
\par In previous releases, no uninstall mechanism was provided for users other than the Administrator who installed the product.
\par {\pntext\pard\plain\f1\fs20 \'b7\tab}\pard\plain \s26\fi-173\li173\widctlpar\tx180\tx270{\*\pn \pnlvlblt\pnf1\pnstart1\pnindent173\pnhang{\pntxtb \'b7}}\f4\fs20 Some utilities\emdash such as the Image Editor, the Package Collection Editor
, Database Desktop, and the XMLMapper\emdash
will not work correctly until the Delphi IDE is run at least once. This is because the IDE copies a set of global registry entries from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to the user's registry space. In the past, the installation program performed this task.
If you perform a partial install, then add other components later, the new components will not automatically appear in the IDE. To make the new packages appear, you can manually add them to the IDE using the Install Packages dialog (Component menu). An al
ternative is to run the D6RegClean.exe utility to force the IDE to refresh its settings from the global environment space. Note: Using the latter procedure will restore the default settings, replacing any customized settings you may have made.
\par The following items describe known issues, behavior, and functionality that can affect installation of this product. For other installation issues, including how to remove the product, see the INSTALL document at the root of your CD.

\par \pard\plain \s27\sb120\widctlpar\tx270 \b\f5\fs18 Before you install
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par You should always protect your data by backing it up. Before loading a project that was created with an earlier version of this product, be sure that copies of all of the files related to the project you're about to load are backed up and securely stored.
\par
\par \pard\plain \s27\sb120\widctlpar\tx270 \b\f5\fs18 Back up your BDE configuration
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par This product includes a new version of the Borland Database Engine (BDE). Unless you specify other than the default setup directories during installation, Delphi will overwrite your existing 32-bit BDE and SQL Links install
ations, so it is strongly recommended that you back up all current BDE configuration files before installing this release.
\par \tab Do not install Delphi 6 in a directory that contains an older version. Always install a new version of Delphi in a new directory. Different versions of Delphi can coexist on the same system, but each version must be installed in its own directory.
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par \pard\plain \s27\sb120\widctlpar\tx270 \b\f5\fs18 If you've installed this product before
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par You can install to the same machine (though to a different location) as another version of the product. If you want to install to the same directory as an existing version, uninstall the existing version first. In either case, you should back up your IDAP
I.CFG file (if one is present) and any other important data, including existing projects that you intend to use with this version.

\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par If installing from a network or shared drive, you must map a drive letter to the server and folder that contains the INSTALL.EXE program that initiates installation of this product.

\par \pard\plain \s27\sb120\widctlpar\tx270 \b\f5\fs18 Performing a Custom installation
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par To conserve disk space, you can perform a custom installation, selecting only the options you require. To do so, select the Custom radio button in the Setup Type dialog during installation. Disk space required for the total custom installation and individ
ual options is displayed as you select or deselect options.

\par \pard\plain \s27\sb120\widctlpar\tx270 \b\f5\fs18 Avoiding a VisiBroker version conflict
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par During installation you are asked which type of CORBA support you want installed: either the VisiBroker 3.3/CORBA DII solution or VisiBroker 4/CORBA IDL2Pas solution (or no CORBA at all).
\par {\b\i Note:
\par }\pard\plain \s16\fi-270\li270\widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20 \tab If you choose VisiBroker 4, the installer looks for Sun's Java Runtime Environment (JRE) or Java Development Kit (JDK) version 1.2.2 or higher. If neither is found, JRE 1.2.2 is installed.
\par If the installer detects that another application is registered as your Just-In-Time debugger, you will be asked if you want to change this setting to use the Delphi debugger. For proper operation of this release, you should choose to update this setting.
\par
\par {\i To preserve your existing AEDebug settings for later restoration, follow these steps:

\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par The new installer does not, in most cases, require you to reboot after installation. The Borland Debugger Kernel is automatically registered by the new installer. If, however, you receive "BORDBK60 not registered" errors when running the program,
then you will need to manually register the debugger.
\par
\par To manually register the debugger, open a command window, switch to the Debugger Kernel location (default {\f11 c:\\program files\\common files\\borland shared\\debugger\\bordbk60.dll}
) and run the Microsoft Register Server utility with the following command:
\par }\pard\plain \s16\fi-270\li270\widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20 \tab If REGSVR32 is not on your path, switch to your Windows/System directory and run the utility with a full path specification to the Debugger Kernel file.
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par \pard\plain \s27\sb120\widctlpar\tx270 \b\f5\fs18 Legacy Windows libraries
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par In past releases of this product, updated versions of some Microsoft Windows DLLs were installed for you. These included OLEAUT32.DLL, OLEPRO32.DLL, MSVCRT.DLL, MSVCRT20.DLL, and MSVCRT40.DLL. We updated these libraries because Windows 95 systems required
the updates in order to run provided demos and examples.
\par
\par However, we are no longer checking for and updating these libraries, since the versions provided by current Windows versions (2000, 98 and higher, and NT 4.0 Service Pack 5 and higher) support the demos we provide.
\par
\par For Windows 95 users and anyone else who may need them, the library updates will instead be available for copying from the installation CD. The files are located in the directory /Info/Extras/Win95Support.
\par
\par \pard\plain \s27\sb120\widctlpar\tx270 \b\f5\fs18 Installer may require additional temporary space
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par If the drive containing the folder specified in your TMP environment variable is low on space, the Installer may halt with an error message noting the shortage. If this occurs, you'll need to assign your TMP var
iable to a folder on a drive with more disk space, then rerun the installation.
\par Neither the VisiBroker 4 or Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installers set your PATH or CLASSPATH specifications to point to the JRE installation location. Unless you manually set these environment variables, programs requiring the JRE (including all VisiB
roker programs except the OSAgent and the console, which uses a batch file) will not run.
\par
\par The InterBase Administration components IBInstall and IBUninstall will not work correctly unless you manually add the <InterBase>\\Bin location to your PATH variable.
\par
\par \pard\plain \s27\sb120\widctlpar\tx270 \b\f5\fs18 Installer may misreport disk space requirements \line on Windows 95/98/ME
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par On Windows 95, 98, and Millennium systems, the Microsoft Windows Installer may misreport the amount of disk space required by Delphi. The Installer may report that it needs more than 2GB of disk space. Delphi does not require this much space. To work arou
nd this issue, exit the Installer and restart the installation.
\par
\par \pard\plain \s27\sb120\widctlpar\tx270 \b\f5\fs18 VisiBroker install dialog displays incorrect information
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par The VisiBroker 4.1 installer displays a dialog which suggests an evaluation version is being installed. You may disregard this information. A "Named User" development license, as described in the VisiBroker license agreement, will be provided by the Delph
i installer.
\par
\par \pard\plain \s27\sb120\widctlpar\tx270 \b\f5\fs18 JRE error message on Japanese Windows systems
\par \pard\plain \widctlpar\tx270 \f4\fs20
\par On Japanese Windows systems, Sun's JRE installer issues the following error message:
"JRE_UPDATE_VERSION entry not found in the string table." The message may be ignored; installation of the JRE is not affected, and you may safely continue the installation by pressing the OK button in the error dialog.
\par The Registration dialog appears on first use of the product. If you choose not to register on first use, you can run the Registration application any time thereafter by selecting\line Start|Programs|Borland
Delphi 6|Register Now, or running the program D6reg.exe from your Delphi6\\Bin folder.
\par
\par The Registration program offers three ways to register: Online (direct registration through a secure connection), by telephone, or through a Web form. If you choose to receive your activation key over the phone or via email through the Web form, the unreg
istered product will remain fully functional until you enter your activation key in the appropriate field in the Registration dialog.
\par
\par Each of the Registration options is driven by Wizards, with Help provided where necessary.
Online registration requires an active Internet connection. The process uses port 443 for the transaction; if there is a problem using that port, an attempt is made through port 8080. If your machine is protected by a firewall and the process fails, you
must either con
